Essential
Hilarious, moving, and just an all-around great recording of a great show. The violins are a bit hard to hear in the beginning of "Metal Bird," and I agree that more bass would have helped, but neither of those things ruin my perfect score (If I really wanted to, I could add bass to my copy in Audacity). Efrim and the band seem to be in a great mood, and the performances are the excellence you would expect from them. The crowd also sounds pretty into it. Also, I'm quite convinced that this band has some of the best banter ever in live music. I've always felt that way, but this show in particular is one of their very best for that. Just listen.
This show just makes me realize how ridiculous it is that I still haven't seen them, and how determined I am to change that.
P.S. I agree with the uploader: 'tra-la-la, fa-la-la-la-la-la' ("Sow Some Lonesome Corners So Many Flowers Bloom") would have been awesome to hear live. Eh, I guess it just isn't meant to be.

response to Leslie/redzinger70
Thanks Leslie for liking my recording so much! :-)
I also thought it's better than the sound in the hall itself, especially the drums sounded not like I would have wanted, with hardly any bass-drum and a very loud hi-hat. Considered adding some equalizer, but I decided against it. It does sound much better when you turn up your subwoofer.
I really like the way the quiet parts came out on this recording though, even though my position was perhaps a bit too far on the right so Jessica is a bit too low in the mix. Big thank you to the people standing close to me for being so silent! And thanks for the banter too, I especially liked the request for punk-rock :-) would have loved to hear that song live.

The tour bus between the cities
Thank you so much for capturing this show and sharing it. Excellent quality. This has nothing to do with your recording but the actual live sound: it's a shame that Thierry is often all but out of the mix --did his mic have a herniated disc too? Awwwww! I hope not. It was my first time seeing them in this new pared down lineup, sometimes it felt a little sparse but most of the time I really liked how strongly Jessica & Sophie's playing and singing came across. Some of the guitar passags, too, really brought chills--especially during There is a Light. Microphones in the Trees to finish was sublime.
The crowd was lovely, enthused and attentive and unbelievably quiet during the quiet parts. Arguably too quiet in terms of participation! Efrim seemed more nervous than usual, and a bit frustrated by language barrier misunderstandings / the audience's inclination to shout out requests rather than try to engage in a dialogue about the state of the world or something personal on their minds.
His derailed trains of thought reminded me of listening to friends during their first year of parenthood--the sleep deprivation cannot be underestimated ;-)
I will be curious to see what the mood (and set) is like at the end of the month at the Dutch shows.
Thanks again!
Cheers,
Leslie
